Chief Isioma Okonta, Director-General of the Widows Support Group (WSG), has commended members of the organisation for their grassroots mobilisation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okonta praised the dedication of the group’s coordinators across Delta State’s three senatorial districts, 25 local government areas and wards, as well as its unit canvassers, for promoting the Renewed Hope and M.O.R.E. agendas at the grassroots.

He said the organisation’s mobilisation efforts demonstrated members’ commitment to communicating the programmes and policies of the APC-led governments to residents across the state.

“I am encouraged by the level of grassroots mobilisation being undertaken by members of the Widows Support Group across the state. The dedication of our coordinators and unit canvassers shows that our message is reaching communities at the grassroots,” Okonta said.

The WSG director-general also offered prayers for God’s continued protection, guidance and provision for more than 10,000 widows reportedly enrolled in the state’s monthly social support programme across the 25 local government areas.

He expressed optimism that the continuation of Governor Oborevwori’s administration would provide opportunities for further expansion of social intervention programmes, particularly those designed to improve the welfare of widows and other vulnerable members of society.

Okonta urged members of the organisation to sustain their engagement with communities and remain committed to promoting the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

He further emphasised the importance of conducting political activities peacefully and lawfully, while keeping the welfare and concerns of the people at the centre of their engagements.

The Widows Support Group has established a grassroots network spanning Delta State’s three senatorial districts, with additional coordinators and canvassers operating at local government, ward and electoral-unit levels.

According to the group’s leadership, more than 10,000 widows are beneficiaries of the state’s monthly social support programme, while many have also been registered under the Delta State Social Health Insurance Scheme.

The organisation said its mobilisation structure would continue to engage communities across the state as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
