From hospital wards to conversations with vulnerable families, the APC women’s delegation takes its pre-rally engagement to patients in Kaduna.

For patients navigating the uncertainty of illness, a hospital visit can mean more than a conversation. It can offer a moment of reassurance, a reminder that their struggles have not gone unnoticed.

That was the message the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council sought to communicate during its compassionate hospital outreach in Kaduna State.

Led by Dr Betta Edu, the delegation visited Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital and Yusuf Dansoho Memorial Hospital as part of activities ahead of a planned campaign rally.

The outreach followed a directive attributed to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, asking the team to extend its engagement to women and children receiving medical care in hospitals across Kaduna.

At the two facilities, members of the delegation interacted with patients, healthcare workers and hospital administrators, offering words of encouragement and conveying a message of concern for vulnerable residents.

Among those who participated were Senator Binta Masi Garba, Senator Olujumi, Hon. Elizabeth Ogenyi, Hon. Ada Ode and Hon. Gloria Akobundu. The Majority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Munirat Suleiman Tanimu, was also part of the delegation.

Beyond the immediate humanitarian gesture, the visit opened a conversation about the cost of healthcare and the challenges confronting families seeking medical treatment.

Speaking during the outreach, Edu said the Tinubu administration was pursuing reforms intended to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to Nigerians.

She pointed to maternal healthcare support available in selected hospitals, including assistance for deliveries, Caesarean sections and medicines. She also referenced interventions intended to ease the financial burden of renal dialysis and cancer treatment.

Edu praised the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative for supporting midwives’ training and equipment, describing such measures as important to strengthening maternal healthcare and reducing maternal deaths.

For women facing pregnancy-related medical expenses and families struggling to meet hospital bills, the subject of affordable healthcare remains especially significant.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the visiting team and the Tinubu administration. They also cited student financing support through NELFUND as an intervention they believed could ease the pressure on households paying education expenses.

Some beneficiaries voiced support for the continuation and expansion of maternal healthcare assistance, according to the organisers’ account of the outreach.

The programme formed part of the Directorate’s broader grassroots engagement strategy, bringing together humanitarian activities and discussions about government policies.

While the visits were organised in the context of political mobilisation ahead of a planned rally, their central message was directed at the needs of patients, women, children and families confronting health and financial difficulties.

The Kaduna outreach thus placed hospital corridors, rather than campaign platforms, at the centre of the Directorate’s latest engagement with residents.
