Hon. Ibrahim Adejo says SDP is not part of Rainbow Coalition, insists Tinubu Support Group operates within APC structure
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi East, Hon. Ibrahim Adejo, has urged Idrisima to formally join the ruling party, insisting that the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) is an APC support organisation and not an independent political party.
Adejo also declared that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is not part of the Rainbow Coalition, warning that political alignments must be clearly defined to avoid confusion ahead of future elections.
The APC chieftain made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Lokoja, Kogi State, where he advised Idrisima to clarify his political allegiance and align his activities with the party structure under which he intends to operate.

According to Adejo, Idrisima’s declaration of support for the Tinubu Support Group while retaining his membership of the SDP raises questions about his political direction.
He argued that although politicians are free to associate with support groups and other affiliated organisations, such bodies cannot replace formal political party membership.
“You can only truly belong to a party’s support group if you are a member of that party,” Adejo stated.
He maintained that the TSG operates within the APC’s political framework and is committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu and other candidates of the ruling party at all levels.
Adejo consequently dismissed suggestions that the TSG was not working for APC candidates in Kogi State, describing such claims as inconsistent with the group’s political orientation.
He emphasised that President Tinubu remains the national leader of the APC and that the party’s support structures are expected to advance its candidates and political interests.
Adejo Cites Murtala Ajaka’s Return to APC
To reinforce his position, Adejo cited the example of Murtala Ajaka, the former SDP governorship candidate in Kogi State, who returned to the APC after the last governorship election.
He suggested that Idrisima and his supporters could consider a similar path if they genuinely intend to work within the APC’s political structure.
Adejo said Idrisima might have been inadequately advised on the distinction between belonging to a political party and associating with a support group established to promote a particular political leader.
He explained that political support arrangements require consistency, especially as politicians contesting under different parties are generally expected to support their respective presidential candidates and party platforms.
According to him, Idrisima’s current position could create unnecessary ambiguity about his political allegiance if he continues to identify with the SDP while seeking to operate through an APC-aligned support group.
TSG Membership Must Respect Party Structure
The APC chieftain acknowledged Idrisima’s previous support for retired Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin during the last election, noting that his present interest in the TSG could be viewed as a reciprocal political gesture.
However, he stressed that personal relationships and political understandings should not undermine party discipline, established structures or the importance of formal membership.
Adejo maintained that support groups are designed to mobilise backing for political leaders and their programmes, rather than serve as alternative platforms for people who remain members of rival political parties.
He added that the APC’s commitment to President Tinubu and its candidates across the state remains unchanged, insisting that the party’s support organisations must operate in accordance with that objective.
APC Opens Door to SDP Members
Despite his reservations, Adejo said the APC remains open to receiving Idrisima, his supporters and other interested SDP members who may wish to join the ruling party.
He described Idrisima’s interest in the Tinubu Support Group as a welcome development, provided it is accompanied by a clear political commitment and proper alignment with the APC.
Adejo urged politicians interested in working with the ruling party to formalise their membership rather than rely on arrangements that could generate uncertainty over their political loyalties.

He maintained that a clear understanding of party structures, membership 6gc political responsibilities would help strengthen cooperation among supporters of President Tinubu and promote effective mobilisation ahead of future elections.
The remarks highlight the continuing importance of party identity and political alliances in Kogi State as political actors position themselves for upcoming electoral contests.
