As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council’s Women Mobilisation Directorate has taken its campaign outreach to Kaduna State, calling for stronger grassroots participation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The delegation, led by Dr Betta Edu, met with Kaduna State Deputy Governor Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe on Thursday as part of preparations for the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in the state.

Edu said the Directorate was working towards mobilising close to 40 million votes for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, adding that the target could only be pursued through sustained engagement with voters at the community level.

She said women would play a crucial role in the mobilisation process, given their involvement in family decisions, community networks, markets and other grassroots structures.

The Directorate, she explained, intended to engage women directly rather than rely exclusively on large political rallies.

The planned activities include market outreach, household visits, hospital visits and consultations with women leaders and other stakeholders.

Edu also expressed optimism about the economic direction of the country, arguing that the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration could create the conditions for greater prosperity in a second term.

“We have gone through the reform phase already. Now it is time for prosperity. We are already at the gate of prosperity,” she said.

She urged APC supporters in Kaduna and other North-Western states to maintain peaceful political engagement and respect the democratic choices of voters.

According to her, persuasion and dialogue should guide mobilisation activities, rather than intimidation or coercion.

The delegation included Senator Binta Masi Garba, Hon. Scholastica Ben-Sor, Hon. Elizabeth Ogenyi and Hon. Ada Ode.

Edu praised the administration of Governor Uba Sani, citing reported interventions in road construction, public transportation and primary healthcare. She also recognised Deputy Governor Balarabe’s contribution to women’s political representation.

Balarabe, who chairs the Local Organising Committee for the campaign flag-off, said preparations were progressing through planning meetings and stakeholder coordination.

She stressed that Kaduna’s strategic position in the North made the organisation of the event particularly important.

The deputy governor urged members of the Women Mobilisation Directorate to work with the committee and sustain their engagement after the flag-off.

She expressed confidence in the capacity of women to support the party’s campaign and increase participation at the grassroots.

Hon. Munirat Suleiman Tanimu, another member of the delegation, spoke to the press in Hausa about the Directorate’s grassroots activities and expressed confidence in the prospects of Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.

The visit is one of the Directorate’s engagements with political leaders and women stakeholders as the APC prepares for the 2027 elections.

While the Directorate has announced an ambitious mobilisation target, the eventual electoral outcome will depend on voters’ choices at the polls.
