The return of displaced Bassa Kwomu residents to their ancestral communities in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has emerged as one of the notable outcomes attributed to renewed security and peacebuilding efforts under the administration of Executive Chairman Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya.

Baba Yahaya assumed office on November 6, 2024, with a pledge to unite the people of the local government and work toward ending longstanding communal tensions.

Since then, his administration has focused considerable attention on strengthening security across Toto, Gadabuke and Umaisha districts.
The interventions include support for security agencies, construction of security infrastructure and the provision of operational mobility.
In Gadabuke Town, the administration facilitated the construction of a police station, while operational vehicles were provided for the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
Similar operational support was extended to Umaisha, while the police division in Toto Town also received support.
The administration further donated 10 motorcycles to strengthen security operations and improve surveillance within the local government.
At Katakpa community in Umaisha District, the council constructed and furnished a Military Super Camp within the period under review.
The interventions were aimed at improving security coverage and creating conditions for residents to return to communities that had previously experienced displacement.
Following improved security, the administration, in collaboration with the Nasarawa State and Federal Governments, facilitated the return of Bassa residents and other displaced persons to their villages after several years away.
The development has been welcomed by community stakeholders.
Mr. John Ughulu said Toto and neighbouring areas were experiencing relative peace, while commending the council chairman for his efforts.
He appealed to the chairman to maintain the momentum and continue strengthening security and peaceful coexistence.
