From Our Reporter, Kano
The political road to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections is beginning to take shape in Kano State, where women aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council have embarked on a community-by-community mobilisation campaign in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The initiative is being driven nationally by Dr Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, with Hajiya Maimuna Bello and Hon. Tsakuwa coordinating activities in parts of Kano State.
Announcing the commencement of the exercise, Bello said the campaign would focus on reaching women within their communities, strengthening grassroots networks and encouraging direct engagement with potential supporters.
The mobilisation is also designed to advance the directorate’s target of securing 40 million votes from female supporters across Nigeria.
Minjibir Women Rally Around Grassroots Outreach
At Minjibir Local Government Area, Hon. Tsakuwa reportedly brought together hundreds of women for a sensitisation programme focused on door-to-door mobilisation and the need to expand political engagement beyond established party gatherings.
The approach places community participation at the centre of the campaign, with women expected to play a role in communicating the directorate’s message and sustaining contact with residents.
For the organisers, the broader challenge is to build an effective network capable of connecting national campaign objectives with local political realities across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
Recognition for Women’s Empowerment Efforts
Bello praised First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for programmes intended to improve women’s welfare, strengthen economic empowerment and create greater opportunities for women.
She also congratulated Dr Betta Edu on her appointment, expressing optimism that the directorate would achieve stronger coordination and wider national reach under her leadership.
Bello urged female political leaders, community stakeholders and support groups to remain actively involved in the exercise, while pledging to collaborate with grassroots structures throughout Kano State.
With the 2027 electoral contest approaching, the mobilisation drive places a spotlight on the role of women in party organisation, community outreach and voter engagement.
