The Igala Youths Council Worldwide has rejected the recently circulated report on power rotation in Kogi State, describing it as lacking transparency, broad stakeholder consultation and adequate representation of the interests of the state’s three senatorial districts.
The Council, under the leadership of its National President, Comrade Onogu Collins Monday, expressed its position in a press statement reacting to a publication titled “Ododo Backs Rotation of Kogi Governorship Position, Calls for Peace, Equitable Development.”
According to the Council, the accompanying committee report does not adequately reflect the collective aspirations of the people of Kogi State for fairness, equity and inclusive governance.
The organisation questioned the credibility of the committee’s composition and consultation process, arguing that the report appeared to advance sectional interests under the guise of promoting political rotation.
It maintained that any credible arrangement for power rotation ahead of the 2027 governorship election must be founded on justice, transparency and genuine reconciliation among the state’s diverse political constituencies.
Council Raises Concerns Over Second-Term Agenda
The Igala Youths Council also questioned what it described as the apparent promotion of a second-term agenda alongside calls for governorship rotation.
It argued that combining the two positions raises questions about the sincerity of the proposed arrangement, insisting that rotation should not be determined by political convenience.
The Council said the process must be guided by fairness and a genuine commitment to ensuring that no senatorial district feels excluded from the state’s political leadership.
Kogi East, West Marginalisation Concerns
The Council identified Kogi East and Kogi West as areas requiring particular attention in the ongoing debate.
It argued that Kogi East, which it described as the state’s largest senatorial district in terms of population and voting strength, continues to face concerns over infrastructure, political representation and equitable development.
It also pointed to Kogi West’s historical exclusion from the governorship, stating that the district has yet to produce a governor since the creation of Kogi State.
According to the Council, these concerns must be addressed through a credible political arrangement that recognises historical circumstances and promotes inclusion.
2027 Rotation Must Be Fair, Council Insists
The organisation maintained that Kogi East should be considered first in the 2027 governorship rotation debate because of what it described as prolonged marginalisation.
Alternatively, it said Kogi West should receive serious consideration because the district has never occupied the state’s highest executive office.
The Council further called on youths and political stakeholders from both districts to maintain unity, engage constructively and work towards a mutually acceptable solution.

It declared that lasting peace in Kogi State would depend on the willingness of political actors to address legitimate concerns about fairness and representation.
The statement was signed by Comrade Onogu Collins Monday, National President of the Igala Youths Council Worldwide.
The Council reaffirmed its position that sustainable peace can only be achieved when political arrangements are built on justice, equity and inclusiveness.
