2nd Anniversary: Ughelli North LG Chairman Jaro Egbo Lists Infrastructure, Security, Healthcare Achievements, Promises More Projects

Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has unveiled the major milestones recorded by his administration over the past two years, highlighting significant achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, security, education and staff welfare while assuring residents that more development projects are underway.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday to commemorate his second anniversary in office, Egbo said his administration has remained committed to delivering on campaign promises despite the challenges confronting local governments across Nigeria.
The council chairman attributed the successes of his administration to the support of the people, traditional rulers, political stakeholders and the leadership of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose MORE Agenda continues to drive grassroots development across the state.
Egbo described the construction of the ultra-modern Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat Complex as one of the flagship projects of his administration, noting that the project is nearing completion.

He also disclosed that work is progressing steadily on a new Secretariat Gate Complex, designed to improve security and enhance the visual appeal of the council headquarters.
According to him, the Legislative Assembly Complex has been fully rehabilitated and equipped with modern office facilities, including an independent power supply to ensure a conducive working environment for lawmakers.
The chairman further revealed that his administration constructed multi-storey market stalls to stimulate commerce, completed a dual-court complex to strengthen access to justice, and commenced the rehabilitation of the long-neglected Post Office Road in front of Ughelli High Court II.
The road project includes reinforced concrete pavement, asphalt overlay and comprehensive drainage systems aimed at addressing flooding challenges in the area.
In the health sector, Egbo announced the completion and operationalisation of the Ughelli North Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital, equipped with modern medical facilities to provide quality healthcare services to residents.
He added that residential quarters for doctors and nurses are currently under construction to improve healthcare delivery and encourage medical personnel to serve within the council.
According to him, the healthcare investment represents one of the administration’s most significant achievements in improving public health.
To improve electricity supply, the council procured and installed three 11/33 KVA transformers in strategic communities across Ughelli North.
Egbo also said electricity has been restored to the council secretariat through upgraded electrical infrastructure.
Additionally, the council introduced a hybrid solar power system, comprising solar panels and high-capacity solar streetlights, to guarantee uninterrupted lighting while reducing dependence on the national power grid.
The chairman emphasized that security remains one of the administration’s highest priorities.
He disclosed that close collaboration with security agencies has restored peace in previously troubled communities, particularly along the Ogor, Evwreni and Ohoror axis of the East-West Highway.
According to Egbo, security operations have successfully dismantled criminal hideouts, leading to a significant reduction in cases of kidnapping and armed robbery along the Evwreni-Uwheru and Uvwiamuge-Agbarho corridors.
To further enhance security, the council donated a fully equipped patrol vehicle to the Police Mobile Force, constructed a modern police post and renovated an acquired building at the DDPA Housing Estate.
The facility now serves as the operational headquarters of Operation Delta Sweep while also accommodating personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement (NDLEA).
Egbo said his administration procured and distributed more than 300 school desks, school uniforms, textbooks, exercise books and other educational materials to pupils in public primary schools using internally generated revenue.
He added that the council continues to collaborate with the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on teacher capacity development, classroom rehabilitation and provision of additional educational facilities.
On environmental management, the chairman disclosed that extensive desilting of drainage channels, especially along the East-West Road corridor in Agbarho, has helped reduce flooding.
He also announced the revival of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the local government.
Egbo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, revealing that all outstanding financial obligations owed members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have been cleared.
He further disclosed that strategic offices within the council secretariat have been remodelled while official vehicles have been procured for key offices, including the Vice Chairman, Leader of the Legislative Assembly, Secretary to the Local Government, Head of Personnel Management, Chief Security Officer and an 18-seater bus for the Council Press Unit.
Looking ahead, Egbo pledged that the remaining years of his administration would focus on expanding infrastructure, strengthening healthcare delivery, improving education, enhancing security, empowering youths and women, promoting agriculture, protecting the environment and creating greater economic opportunities.
He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.
The council chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, traditional rulers, political leaders, security agencies, civil servants, community leaders, the media and residents of Ughelli North for their unwavering support.
“Our achievements are the product of collective effort. As we begin the last lap of this administration, we remain determined to build a more peaceful, prosperous and progressive Ughelli North,” Egbo stated.
