The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, has approved the conferment of its Distinguished Alumnus Award on the Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, Delta State, Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino.
The prestigious recognition is in honour of Aghalino’s contributions to the promotion of the ideals, values and image of his alma mater through his academic engagements, professional accomplishments and public representation.
In a letter dated July 22, 2026, and signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, the institution formally communicated its decision to honour Aghalino.

The letter, titled “Conferment of a Distinguished Alumnus Award,” stated that the university management had approved his nomination in recognition of his steadfast commitment to advancing the ideals and image of the institution.
“I am pleased to inform you that the Management of University of Ilorin has approved your nomination as a Distinguished Alumnus in recognition of your steadfast commitment to promoting the ideals and image of the University,” the letter stated.
The university further commended the renowned historian and university administrator for his continued efforts in projecting the institution positively.
“Through your academic engagements and public representation, you have consistently portrayed the University in a most favourable light, for which we are deeply appreciative,” the letter added.
Award Ceremony Holds August 17
The conferment ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the University Auditorium, University of Ilorin.
The institution expressed its anticipation of welcoming Aghalino back to campus for the ceremony, describing the honour as “well-deserved” while extending the congratulations and best wishes of the university community to him.
