The controversy surrounding the reported resignation of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Musa Adamu Angba, and the purported move to replace him with former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has failed to unsettle supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu.

Reacting to the circulating affidavit said to indicate Angba’s voluntary resignation, Chairman of the Coalition of Youth Support Group for Wadada 2027, Comr. Jaafar Muhammad Loko, said the development remained far from settled, stressing that several constitutional, electoral and legal questions still required determination.

According to him, “it is not over yet until it is all over,” insisting that the legality of any proposed replacement must be subjected to the relevant provisions of the Constitution, Electoral Act, judicial precedents and regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

One of the major questions, Muhammad noted, is whether a member of one political party who participated in that party’s primary election can legally replace the candidate of another political party.

He also questioned whether an individual who was not a registered member of a political party at the time the party submitted its membership register and conducted its primary election, particularly after the expiration of the electoral timetable set by INEC, can validly emerge as a replacement candidate.

“These are not matters to be decided by political excitement, media speculation, or the circulation of affidavits,” he said.

Muhammad maintained that the questions should be determined through appropriate legal processes, expressing confidence that the rule of law would ultimately prevail.

Wadada Has Political Advantage — Group

The youth coalition chairman argued that even if the former IGP eventually secures the SDP ticket, the development would not automatically translate into electoral victory.

He said the electorate in Nasarawa State was politically sophisticated and capable of distinguishing between what he described as genuine political commitment and a hurried political arrangement.

According to him, the APC remains one of the strongest political platforms in Nasarawa State, with a broad grassroots structure, experienced leaders, loyal members and an established network across the state’s political landscape.

“Elections are not won by sudden appearances or media noise alone; they are won through organisation, trust, sacrifice, mobilisation, and a proven connection with the people,” he said.

Muhammad further declared that Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, popularly known as Sarkin Yakin Keffi, already possesses considerable political goodwill across the state.

He said Wadada had built relationships with citizens over the years and remained active in the political process through service, engagement and participation in democratic activities.

‘Wadada Will Not Lose Sleep’

The group insisted that whoever emerges as the candidate of another political party would not cause the APC or Senator Wadada to panic.

“We have our people, our strategy, our experience, and the human and material resources required to prosecute a successful campaign,” Muhammad said.

He added that supporters of Wadada remained calm and focused, expressing confidence that the electorate would ultimately determine the winner through the ballot box.

“Only time will tell,” he concluded.
