Rep. Francis Waive Launches Free 24-Hour Broadband Internet in Delta Community

Residents of Obi-Ayagha Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State have begun enjoying free 24-hour broadband internet service following the inauguration of a community-wide connectivity project facilitated by the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Rev.) Francis Ejiroghene Waive.

The broadband initiative, which provides uninterrupted internet access at no cost to users, is aimed at bridging the digital divide and expanding opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and communication for residents of the rural community.

The project is the latest in a series of constituency interventions executed by the federal lawmaker as part of his commitment to improving living standards and promoting sustainable development across his constituency.

Free Broadband to Boost Digital Inclusion

The newly commissioned broadband facility complements the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre earlier established by Waive to equip young people with digital skills and improve access to modern technology.

Residents believe the free internet service will significantly enhance online learning, remote work opportunities, digital entrepreneurship and access to government and private sector services.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen digital inclusion in the community by providing reliable internet connectivity for students, businesses and professionals.

Education Receives Major Investment

Beyond digital infrastructure, Waive has maintained a strong focus on education in Obi-Ayagha.

Community leaders disclosed that the federal lawmaker personally built the community’s secondary school before it was later taken over by the Delta State Government.

He has continued to finance the salaries of privately employed teachers since the school’s establishment and currently provides accommodation for the principal.

His educational interventions also extend to the community’s primary school, where pupils have benefited from the distribution of free school uniforms, exercise books, school bags and sandals.

Improved Electricity Supply

In the power sector, Waive was credited with restoring electricity to Obi-Ayagha in 2019, ending more than eight years without public electricity.

To improve electricity distribution, he recently donated a bulk prepaid meter to the community, while solar-powered streetlights installed through his intervention continue to provide lighting across major roads and public spaces.

Healthcare Infrastructure Strengthened

Healthcare delivery has also received a boost through the completion of a cottage hospital in the community last year.

According to community sources, the health facility is currently undergoing processing to operate as an outreach centre of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ovwian, a development expected to improve access to quality healthcare services for residents.

Empowerment and Job Creation

Waive’s constituency development programmes also include economic empowerment initiatives designed to improve livelihoods.

Beneficiaries have received motorcycles, sewing machines, agricultural loans and COVID-19 relief grants aimed at supporting small businesses and vulnerable households.

Several indigenes have also secured employment opportunities at the Federal Medical Centre and other government institutions through the lawmaker’s intervention.

Youth Development and Community Support

To encourage youth engagement and recreation, the federal legislator has facilitated sporting facilities, including tennis and snooker equipment.

His annual Christmas outreach programme has also become a major community event, featuring the distribution of cows, bags of rice and other relief materials to residents.

Residents Commend Waive’s Representation

Residents described Hon. Waive’s numerous constituency projects as transformative, noting that the introduction of free broadband internet represents another milestone in the community’s development journey.

With the launch of free 24-hour broadband internet alongside investments in education, healthcare, electricity and economic empowerment, Hon. (Rev.) Francis Ejiroghene Waive’s constituency projects continue to reshape development in Obi-Ayagha, offering residents improved access to essential services and greater opportunities for socio-economic growth.
