Delta Governor Oborevwori Mourns Veteran Journalist Dave Okpogadie

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and Delta State Correspondent of News Direct, Comrade Dave Okpogadie, describing his passing as a significant loss to both the journalism profession and Delta State.

Okpogadie died on Saturday after battling jaw cancer for more than two years, according to a statement released by the Delta State Government.

In a condolence message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended his sympathies to the late journalist’s family, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, colleagues in the media, and all those affected by his death.

The governor described Okpogadie as a dedicated journalist whose professionalism, integrity and commitment to ethical reporting earned him widespread respect within the media industry and beyond.

He said the late journalist’s contributions to the profession would remain memorable, adding that his dedication to duty reflected the values of responsible journalism.

Governor Oborevwori also paid tribute to Okpogadie’s courage and resilience throughout his prolonged illness, noting that his determination and faith inspired colleagues, friends and supporters who stood by him during his health challenges.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends, professional colleagues and members of the NUJ Delta State Council the strength to bear what he described as an irreparable loss.

The death of Dave Okpogadie has continued to attract tributes from journalists, public officials and other stakeholders, many of whom have praised his lasting contributions to journalism and public service in Delta State.
