Nasarawa West Youth Coalition Insists on Governorship Rotation to West in 2027, Rejects ‘Mediocrity’ Claim
The Coalition of Youth Groups from Nasarawa West Senatorial District has firmly reaffirmed the unwritten but sacrosanct principle of rotational leadership for the state’s governorship, urging all stakeholders to uphold zoning ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its leaders: Comr. Jaafar Loko, For the Leadership, Coalition of Youth Groups and Comr. Samuel Kyauta Mami, Secretary, the coalition dismissed recent claims by a gubernatorial aspirant and some stakeholders that the absence of formal zoning is a “recipe for mediocrity.” They argued that this view undermines the peace and unity fostered by power rotation among Nasarawa’s three senatorial districts: West, South, and North.
“Since the state’s creation, the governorship has rotated from Nasarawa West to South, and now rests with North. It is unequivocally Nasarawa West’s turn in 2027,” the group stated, citing public endorsement from incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule, who has backed a successor from the West to sustain harmony and progress.
The coalition emphasized that rotational leadership is rooted in trust, fairness, and inclusivity, preventing discord in Nigeria’s diverse polity. Disregarding it, they warned, could erode political cohesion.
Nasarawa West, they added, boasts qualified leaders ready to build on the state’s development trajectory, blending merit with equitable zoning.
The group called on aspirants and stakeholders to respect this tradition, pledging continued advocacy for justice and peaceful polls.
