Residents and commuters in Lokoja have continued to embrace the Coastal Bus Free Ride initiative sponsored by the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Steve Karimi.

The free bus service, which has commenced full operations, covers the Zango–Shettima–Barracks axis through to Nataco Junction in Lokoja Local Government Area.

Since the commencement of operations, the service has recorded high patronage among workers, students, artisans, traders and other members of the public who regularly commute along the route.

The initiative allows passengers to travel to their destinations without paying transport fares, irrespective of their political affiliation, religion or ethnic background.

The development has attracted positive reactions from beneficiaries, with some residents describing the initiative as a timely intervention capable of cushioning the effect of rising transportation costs.

For workers and students who travel daily, transportation expenses constitute a significant part of their regular expenditure. The free bus service is therefore expected to provide relief for many beneficiaries.

Students of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja and Federal University Lokoja, as well as pupils attending schools along the route, are among those expected to benefit from the service.

Artisans and other informal-sector workers who depend on daily transportation to conduct their businesses are also beneficiaries of the initiative.

Some residents expressed appreciation to Senator Karimi for the intervention and called for its sustainability.

They also prayed for his success in the 2027 elections and urged residents of Kogi West to support his political aspiration.

The initiative adds to Senator Karimi’s interventions in areas such as education, infrastructure and human capital development since his election to the National Assembly.

As the service continues, commuters along the designated corridor are expected to enjoy free transportation to their destinations, providing temporary relief from the increasing cost of public transportation.
