In the heart of Kogi West, one name has become synonymous with grassroots impact – Hon. Leke Abejide. They call him “The Pride of Okunland.” Not because of titles but because of the smiles he’s putting on people’s faces.
Hon. Leke Abejide is the Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He was first elected in 2019 and he came in with one promise: “Representation you can see, touch, and feel”.
Five years later, constituents say that promise is being kept, one community at a time.
Hon. Leke is increasingly being described across Okunland as “the pride of the land” for his consistent investment in grassroots development. Since assuming office, the lawmaker has focused on projects and programs targeted at improving the daily lives of constituents in Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopa-Muro LGAs. From education to health, empowerment to infrastructure, Hon. Abejide’s interventions have touched families directly.
GIVING CHILDREN A FUTURE
In education, the story is clear.
Indigent students who thought school fees would end their dreams are now in classrooms and universities through scholarship schemes sponsored by his Office.
EMPOWERMENT – Across the 3 LGAs, women and youth are the biggest beneficiaries. Skill acquisition programs. SME grants, Empowerment tools — grinding machines, sewing machines, hair dryers, motorcycles — all aimed at one thing: self-reliance.
For market women in Isanlu, traders in Mopa, and young graduates in Odo-Ere, it’s not politics. It’s survival made easier.
HEALTH & INFRASTRUCTURE – MEETING BASIC NEEDS:
Boreholes have been sunk in communities that walked kilometers for water. Primary Health Centers have received upgrades and medical support and the push for road infrastructure linking Yagba to Kabba and the rest of Kogi West continues, because he says “no development happens in isolation.”

Hon. Abejide is often seen in town halls, not just during elections. His office runs an open-door policy and his message to constituents: “Your problem is my problem”. That is why, in political conversations across Okunland today, he is called “The Pride of Okunland.”
Residents say the impact is visible in the smiles across communities. Boreholes have eased water challenges in several villages, ICT centers are helping young people acquire digital skills, and empowerment tools like grinding machines, sewing machines, and motorcycles have given beneficiaries new sources of livelihood. This is representation that you can see and feel. Leadership is not just about sitting in Abuja. It’s about what comes back home.
Political stakeholders in Okunland say Hon. Abejide has redefined what constituency representation should look like. By prioritizing people-centered projects over rhetoric, he has positioned himself as a leader who listens and delivers. As 2027 approaches, many in Yagba and across Okunland believe his record of “putting smiles on people’s faces” is what representation should be measured by.
