As Kogi State marks 35 years of creation, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, has called on all political stakeholders to embrace unity, fairness, and a level playing field ahead of future elections.
Speaking about the Kogi@35 anniversary in Lokoja, the PDP Chairman said the celebration should go beyond merriment and serve as a moment of reflection on how democracy can be deepened in the Confluence State.
He noted that 35 years of statehood have brought growth, but also lessons on the need for inclusive politics.
According to him, elections remain the foundation of democracy, and for Kogi to move forward, every party and candidate must be given equal opportunity to contest without intimidation or manipulation.
“We cannot talk about development if the process of choosing leaders is flawed. Fairness and justice must guide our elections,” he said.
The Chairman urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and traditional rulers to play neutral roles in ensuring credible polls, stressing that a peaceful electoral process will not only strengthen democracy but also attract investors and development partners to the state.
He further called on PDP members across the 21 Local Government Areas to remain united and focus on issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks.
“Our strength is in our unity. Kogi@35 should remind us that we are one people with a common destiny, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation,” he added.
The PDP Chairman congratulated the people of Kogi on the 35th anniversary and prayed for peace, progress, and prosperity, adding that the party is committed to working with all well-meaning citizens to build an enviable state where every voice counts and every vote matters.
