The holy scripture teaches that “Wisdom is profitable to direct”. I am highly convinced that this was exactly what Hon. Leke Abejide, the Member Representing Yagba Federal Constituency at the 10th National Assembly did when he decamped from the African Democratic Congress ADC to the All Progressives Congress APC ahead of the coming elections in the Country. Politics has never been a game for the chicken-hearted ones, it is a place for men who know what to do and do what is right at the right time.
Politics in Kogi West took another twist in 2026 when Hon. Leke Abejide once again made headlines for his political realignment. Having previously left ADC for APC in 2022, his 2026 move is viewed as “leaving a wrenching ship for a moving train” — again. The phrase has now become his political identity: a leader willing to change platforms if it means better results for Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopa-Muro.
The reason for the 2026 shift was not about party, but about positioning Yagba to benefit from the center. “A legislator without alignment is a legislator without leverage”.
The “moving train” in 2026 represents the party APC and alignment currently driving federal and state government programs. After the realignment, Hon. Abejide has again secured the Party’s Ticket to return to the House for the Third term. For the people of Yagba Federal Constituency, this is not just about the number of terms, it’s about Continuity in delivering grassroots impact in areas of;
* Infrastructure Push: Lobbying for completion of key Yagba road networks linking several Communities across Yagba Federal Constituency will be easy.
* Human Capital Development: Expansion of scholarships, skills acquisition, and SME grants for women and youth
* Health & Education: More primary health center upgrades and classroom projects across the 3 LGAs is expected and lots more.
His earlier decision may be called defection but it is a strategic move made at the right time.
What is clear is that Leke Abejide has built a brand around pragmatism. The 2026 move reinforced the narrative he started in 2022: put Yagba first, party second.
As we approach 2027, the conversation in Yagba Federal Constituency will not be about party logos. It will be about boreholes sunk, classrooms built, jobs created, and roads tarred and lots more. May Hon. Leke Abejide succeed in the task ahead (Amen).
