After the Videos Went Viral’: Delta Govt Condemns Effurun Violence, Orders Arrest of Perpetrators

The Delta State Government has finally found its voice following the circulation of disturbing videos showing a violent attack in Effurun, directing security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, described the incident as unacceptable and condemned what he called the “cruelsome attack” on Simon Mudi.

According to Aniagwu, the government was deeply disturbed by the videos making the rounds on social media and insisted that such acts of violence would not be tolerated in Delta State.
He said security agencies had been directed to identify, arrest and prosecute all those involved in the attack.
The commissioner also reiterated the commitment of the administration of Sheriff Oborevwori to maintaining peace, law and order, stressing that no individual would be shielded from justice regardless of status or influence.
A Familiar Official Response?
For many observers, however, the government’s response follows a familiar script: outrage after videos trend online, promises of arrests, and assurances that violence has no place in society.
The incident has once again sparked questions about whether quicker intervention and stronger preventive security measures could have stopped the attack before it escalated and dominated social media.
