New Delta CP Erale Targets Kidnapping, Cultism, Cybercrime, Oil Theft

By Yahaya Idris, Asaba

The newly deployed Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, has declared war on kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, cybercrime, oil-related offences and other security threats confronting the state.

Erale made the declaration on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during his inaugural press briefing in Asaba, shortly after assuming office as the 25th Commissioner of Police in Delta State.

The new police chief said his administration would adopt an intelligence-led and technology-enabled approach to crime prevention, with operational resources deployed according to crime patterns and identified hotspots.

He said the command would no longer rely predominantly on reactive policing but would focus on gathering intelligence, analysing crime data and preventing criminal activities before they occur.

Erale said the protection of lives and property would remain the command’s top priority.

He assured residents and visitors that the police would use every lawful means to make Delta safer for people to live, work and conduct legitimate business.

The commissioner identified Delta’s strategic economic importance as one of the reasons the state requires a robust security framework.

He said the command would strengthen cooperation with sister security agencies through joint operations, intelligence sharing, coordinated patrols and rapid responses.

The commissioner also placed community policing at the centre of his agenda, promising stronger engagement with traditional rulers, community leaders, religious organisations, youth groups and women organisations.

He said these partnerships would help improve intelligence gathering and ensure faster reporting of suspicious activities.

Erale further warned against police misconduct, promising zero tolerance for corruption, extortion and other unethical practices.

He said officers who distinguish themselves through integrity and dedication would be rewarded.

The commissioner appealed to residents to provide useful information to the police, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
