….Organisers Dismiss Vote-Buying Allegations, Say Initiative Is Driven by Compassion
More than 1,000 residents of Lagos benefited from the weekly food outreach organised by the All Progressives Congress Youth Network West Africa (APCYN-WA) on Friday, as the group sustained its humanitarian intervention aimed at supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
The outreach, held at the APCYN-WA Lagos Secretariat, attracted beneficiaries from different political affiliations, ethnic backgrounds and religious groups, including women, children, elderly persons and other vulnerable residents, who received meals and relief packages.

Speaking on the initiative, the organisers said the programme forms part of the organisation’s commitment to complementing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by providing food assistance to Nigerians facing economic challenges.
Special attention was given to breastfeeding mothers during the exercise. According to the organisers, the Director-General of APCYN-WA, Hon. Olatunde Gideon Igbasan, presented cash gifts of ₦200,000 each to three lactating mothers, while several other nursing mothers received ₦50,000 each to support their welfare.
Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organisation for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful amid prevailing economic hardship. They also offered prayers for Hon. Igbasan and members of his team for sustaining the weekly outreach.
Some beneficiaries further declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the organisers rejected suggestions that the outreach was intended to influence voters or serve as political inducement.
“This is not about politics or vote buying. It is about humanity,” one of the organisers said. “Our objective is to ensure that no Nigerian goes hungry. This outreach has been a continuous programme and will continue before elections, during elections and after elections.”
According to the organisers, the Friday Food Outreach remains a non-discriminatory humanitarian initiative open to all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation, religion or ethnic background.
They reaffirmed APCYN-WA’s commitment to sustaining the programme every Friday as part of its efforts to support vulnerable members of society and promote community welfare across Lagos and beyond.
