Anambra Moves to Implement Statewide Value Reformation Initiative
The Anambra State Government has intensified efforts to promote moral rebirth and responsible citizenship with the commencement of a statewide value reformation initiative aimed at restoring ethical standards and strengthening social cohesion across the state.
To advance the initiative, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, on Friday convened a stakeholders’ engagement in Awka to chart a framework for the effective implementation of the programme.
The initiative aligns with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of building a “new Anambra” founded on integrity, hard work, patriotism, respect for the rule of law and responsible citizenship.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Mefor stressed the urgent need for collective action to reverse the growing erosion of societal values, describing the increasing obsession with quick wealth, ritual-related crimes and fraudulent activities as serious threats to the state’s social and moral fabric.
He cited a recent incident in Anaocha Local Government Area, where a young man was allegedly involved in the ritual killing of his father, as an indication of the urgent need for comprehensive value reorientation across communities.
According to the commissioner, while the Soludo administration has strengthened law enforcement through the enactment of the Homeland Security Law by the Anambra State House of Assembly, sustainable development requires citizens to willingly embrace honesty, discipline and ethical conduct as guiding principles.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Udoji Amedu, underscored the importance of value reformation, noting that the campaign must target people of all ages if it is to achieve lasting impact.
The stakeholders’ meeting attracted officials of the Ministry of Information and Value Reformation, representatives of the Ministry of Education, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), religious leaders, civil society organisations and other relevant stakeholders.
At the end of the meeting, participants unanimously agreed that restoring moral values is a collective responsibility and pledged their commitment to supporting the state’s value reformation campaign aimed at rebuilding the ethical foundation of Anambra society.
