Widows across the three senatorial districts of Delta State have pledged their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The women made the commitment on Monday during the inauguration and flag-off of the Widows Support Group for Tinubu and Oborevwori at the City Boys Secretariat in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Speaking at the event, the Senior Policy Adviser and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, charged members of the group to take the message of the Renewed Hope and MORE agendas to communities across the state.

Solomon urged the women to familiarise themselves with government policies and programmes before communicating them to voters.
He also advised them to engage in political mobilisation responsibly and avoid abusive language or attacks against political opponents.
“This is not merely a gathering. We are coming together to form a support group that will mobilise and work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other candidates of the APC,” he said.
The Chief Adviser to the Governor, Chief Ighoyota Amori, said the support of women across Delta would be significant to the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amori also encouraged widows in the state to enrol in the free contributory healthcare scheme established for widows, saying access to healthcare would improve their welfare.
Similarly, the General Manager of the Delta State Social Investment Programme, Chief Henry Sakpra, commended the initiative and urged the women to mobilise support for APC candidates across the state.
Sakpra described members of the group as ambassadors of the party and urged them to properly communicate the programmes and interests of the candidates to voters.
Earlier, the Director-General of the group, Chief Isioma Okonta, said the initiative was inspired by the widows’ welfare programme of the Oborevwori administration.
According to him, 10,000 widows across the 25 local government areas of Delta State have been receiving monthly stipends since the programme was launched on August 18, 2025.
Okonta said the beneficiaries resolved to reciprocate the support by becoming ambassadors of the Renewed Hope and MORE agendas and mobilising support for Tinubu, Oborevwori and other APC candidates in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs Cynthia Umukoro of Delta Central, Mrs Joy Egbo of Delta South and Mrs Angela Osita of Delta North pledged their commitment to the objectives of the group.
Prayers were also offered for Governor Oborevwori, Delta State and Nigeria.
