The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has commissioned a 50-bed Primary Healthcare Centre, a Children’s Recreational Centre and two blocks of 36 classrooms in Lagos State.
The projects were commissioned on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Egbeda and Orisumibare as part of the Federal Government’s interventions to improve human capital development and access to essential services.
The projects were constructed, furnished and equipped by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs).
Speaking through the Secretary of Programme, Ms Suzanne Iwongo Sado, Orelope-Adefulire said the interventions were aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She said the administration was committed to human capital development, social inclusion and the delivery of services capable of improving the quality of life of Nigerians.
According to her, the combination of healthcare, education and recreation was deliberate because the three sectors play complementary roles in child and community development.
“A healthy child needs quality healthcare, safe opportunities to play and develop, and a conducive classroom in which to learn.”
Egbeda Gets 50-Bed Health Facility
The new healthcare centre in Egbeda has a capacity of 50 beds and is expected to serve residents of the community and neighbouring areas.
The facility contains operating theatres, recovery rooms, private and general wards, scanning room, consultation rooms, delivery room, children’s and adult intensive care units and a laboratory.
It is also equipped with an ultrasound machine, vacuum extractor delivery set, emergency section and ambulance.
The project includes 12 fully furnished staff quarters.
Orelope-Adefulire said the facility would contribute to SDG 3 by improving access to healthcare while strengthening maternal and child health services.
She noted that lack of access to healthcare could worsen poverty by forcing families to spend substantial portions of their resources on treatment.
Play Facility Targets Child Development
The Children’s Recreational Centre in Egbeda is designed to provide children with a safe environment for recreation, social interaction and personal development.
The SSAP-SDGs said the centre supports SDGs 3, 4, 10 and 11.
Orelope-Adefulire stressed that recreation should be regarded as an important component of childhood development rather than a luxury.
She urged parents, teachers, community leaders and youth organisations to ensure that children have fair access to the facility.
Special attention, she said, should be given to girls, children with disabilities and children from vulnerable households.
Federal Government Delivers 36 Classrooms
At Orisumibare Primary School, two blocks comprising 36 classrooms were delivered to improve the learning environment.
The intervention is expected to ease pressure on existing classrooms and support pupils and teachers.
Orelope-Adefulire urged stakeholders to ensure adequate teacher deployment, learning materials, sanitation, security and maintenance.
Alimosho Chairman Pledges Maintenance
The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, described the projects as significant investments in the future of the community.
Johnson thanked President Tinubu and Orelope-Adefulire for the interventions and pledged the council’s support for proper utilisation and maintenance.
He said the classroom blocks would provide pupils with a conducive environment to learn and develop.
The council chairman also commended the Alaye of Orisumibare, Oba Akeeb Adebowale Rauf, for donating the land for the school project.
He praised the Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Hammed Omogoriola Orelope Laka, for his leadership and support for development initiatives in the community.
