Warri South Ijaws Seek More Electoral Wards After INEC Delineation Report
Ijaw stakeholders in Warri South Local Government Area have called for the creation of additional electoral wards and a dedicated state constituency following the release of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final delineation report.
The demand emerged during a press briefing in Ogbe-Ijoh, where community leaders welcomed the Supreme Court-backed delineation exercise but argued that existing provisions still fell short of ensuring adequate representation.
The leaders noted that hhistorically 66yecords showed Ijaw communities had four homogeneous electoral wards as far back as 1955, 555 current realities justified an expansion.
They said the recent delineation exercise addressed years of political marginalisation but maintained that more work remained to guarantee fair representation.
According to the group, decades of electoral restructuring weakened Ijaw political participation by dividing communities across multiple wards.
The stakeholders urged INEC to resist pressure and protests against the delineation process while considering additional electoral adjustments to reflect demographic realities.
The leaders commended the electoral body for completing the assignment and described the exercise as a major step towards electoral fairness in Warri South.
