Political mobilisation for the 2027 general elections has received a boost in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, following the disclosure that more than 20,000 new voters were registered during the recent voter registration exercise.
The disclosure was made by the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, during a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
Uwah, who is also the Political Leader of Uyo, used the meeting to rally party stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections and expressed confidence that Uyo would increase its votes for Governor Umo Eno and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the SSG, the development recorded under the state government gives residents reasons to support Governor Eno.
“Things are better with Uyo now than in the past. The Governor deserves the support of Uyo people,” he said.
Uwah urged stakeholders to maintain unity and remain focused, while discouraging what he described as premature political activities that could distract the local government administration.
He specifically advised party members to avoid early campaigns for the Uyo LGA chairmanship, saying such activities could undermine attention on the incumbent administration.
The SSG also announced plans to hold dedicated meetings with youths and women in Uyo as part of efforts to deepen engagement with different segments of the electorate.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Udo thanked Uwah for bringing political leaders and stakeholders together, stressing that cooperation remained critical to strengthening the party at the grassroots.
He said the registration of over 20,000 new voters presented an opportunity for stronger political participation in the local government.
The SSG also endorsed the prospects of several candidates ahead of 2027, expressing confidence in Senator Aniekan Bassey, Hon. Mark Essiet and Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo.
Former Chairman of the Local Government and Civil Service Commission, Hon. Monday Eyo, also urged party members to remain steadfast.

Eyo praised Governor Eno’s administration for infrastructure development and appointments, mentioning the Uyo Village Road as an example of projects benefiting residents.
The meeting attracted senior government officials, political leaders, councillors, supervisors and other stakeholders, including Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Dr. Anieti Udofia, Hon. Anietie Eka, Sir Charles Udoh, Mrs. Uduak Eyo Ansa and Mr. Ime Uwah.
