Oborevwori Brings Development Closer to Eyara, Imode — Izeze
The Delta State Government has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to expanding infrastructure to underserved communities, as construction progresses on internal roads linking Eyara and Imode communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
During an inspection of the project on Thursday, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, described the road project as a long-awaited intervention in line with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda.
According to Izeze, the road project had remained the foremost demand of the people for more than eight years, dating back to his first campaign for the Delta State House of Assembly.
“This request has been pending for at least eight years. The people desired a road that would connect Eyara directly to Imode without passing through the highway,” he said.
He explained that despite budgetary constraints, the Governor approved the first phase of the project, covering 750 metres, with plans to extend the road to adjoining communities in the future.
“These are agrarian communities that have experienced limited government presence over the years. Governor Oborevwori is determined to change that narrative,” he stated.
Izeze noted that the project represents a historic milestone for Eyara, hometown of veteran journalist and former presidential spokesman, Ima Niboro.
Assessing the quality of work, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s performance, revealing that he personally inspected the drainage reinforcement before concrete casting and confirmed compliance with approved specifications.
He disclosed that approximately 70 per cent of the drainage work had been completed and directed supervising engineers to address minor defects before project completion. He also expressed confidence that the road would be delivered within schedule.
Izeze further cautioned contractors against citing exchange rate fluctuations as justification for contract reviews, stressing that they had been mobilised early enough to procure materials.
He said the project reflects Governor Oborevwori’s determination to ensure no community is left behind in Delta State’s infrastructure development drive, assuring residents of the administration’s commitment to impactful and inclusive development.
Addressing residents, Izeze urged them to support the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections, noting that the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had improved revenue accruals to states and local governments, thereby enhancing their capacity to execute development projects.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the President-General of Eyara Community, Mr. Gbogbo Tawarien, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for approving the road project.
He described the construction as a long-awaited intervention that would significantly transform the community and improve the living conditions of residents.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, for this gift of a new road. This project has fulfilled our long-standing dream of having a motorable road. When completed, it will enhance the beauty of our community and reduce the hardship faced by our people by improving access and mobility,” he said.
Tawarien also commended Izeze for facilitating the project, describing him as a worthy son of the community.
“Our appreciation also goes to our son, Hon. Reuben Izeze, for facilitating this project for our community. We assure His Excellency of our total support for his second-term bid,” he added.
