Supporters of Dekina Local Government Chairman, Hon. John Urah Ikani, have called for an end to what they described as unfair political comparisons between the incumbent administration and that of his predecessor, Prince Ishaq Shaibu Okolo.
The position was contained in a rejoinder to a publication by Akagwu Media TV on insecurity in Dekina Local Government Area.
The statement acknowledged that security remains a major responsibility of every administration but argued that the history of insecurity in Dekina cannot be reduced to events occurring under the current chairman.
“Give the Current Administration Opportunity”
According to the rejoinder, John Urah Ikani is the serving Chairman of Dekina LGA because the people entrusted him with leadership.
The statement said his administration, which supporters have described as one of “Hope and Restoration,” should be allowed to govern while genuine efforts to maintain peace and security should be acknowledged.
It rejected the narrative that the previous administration enjoyed a monopoly over peace and security.
Security Challenges Cut Across Administrations
The rejoinder said several fatal incidents were recorded during the tenure of former Chairman Prince Ishaq Shaibu Okolo.
It listed the deaths of Shaggari Ojjiji, Musa Memory, Adegbe Iyoma, Abdulrahaman Hassan, a schoolboy in Abocho, Ogwu, Tijani Ogbogolo, Umoru Hassan, Danladi Hassan, Usman Idris Akahaba and Abbas Shaibu Atilary, among others.
It also referenced the 2020 kidnapping of Yunusa, saying he was abducted while leaving Prince Ishaq’s residence but clarifying that the location where he was killed was outside Dekina LGA.
The response said additional deaths were recorded during the same period, naming Adejoh Akowe, Shaibu Alih Exban, Cboy Achema Awokee, Yusuf Musa, Usman Ocheni, Sunday Omale and Ukekwu Ojeomu.
Focus on Solutions
The statement stressed that the purpose of recalling previous incidents was not to celebrate or politicise deaths but to establish that insecurity has been a challenge at different times.
It warned that victims and their families should not be reduced to political statistics.
The rejoinder also argued that crime occurring outside Dekina should not automatically be blamed on the local government chairman because the victim happens to originate from Dekina.

It instead called for a stronger and more coordinated security framework involving relevant authorities and community stakeholders.
The statement further said traditional rulers, key stakeholders and government authorities understand the security realities in Dekina and have continued to support the current chairman’s efforts.
It urged residents to support initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and protecting lives and property.
