The Delta State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Senior Policy Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, has congratulated the governor on his conferment with the Christian Icon Award by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja.
Funkekeme described the award as recognition of Oborevwori’s commitment to public service, people-oriented governance, peacebuilding and the promotion of values consistent with Christian teachings.
In a statement issued in Asaba, the governor’s aide said the honour was significant because it recognised leadership through practical service to the people, particularly policies and programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities across Delta State.
He said the Oborevwori administration had prioritised infrastructure development, healthcare, education, workers’ welfare and social intervention programmes as part of efforts to improve the living conditions of residents.
According to Funkekeme, the governor’s MORE Agenda, which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security, provides a framework for translating public expectations into practical development outcomes.
Infrastructure Projects to Boost Economic Activities
Funkekeme said investments in roads, bridges and urban infrastructure were helping to improve connectivity, facilitate commercial activities and strengthen links between communities across the state.
He cited major road and bridge projects as evidence of the administration’s focus on infrastructure development as a driver of economic growth and improved mobility.
The governor’s aide noted that improved road networks could support businesses, ease transportation challenges and create better access to economic opportunities for residents.
Healthcare Investments and Improved Access to Services
On healthcare, Funkekeme highlighted the provision of modern diagnostic equipment, dialysis machines and ultrasound scanners, alongside the renovation of primary healthcare centres.
He said the interventions reflected the administration’s stated commitment to expanding access to medical services and strengthening healthcare delivery across Delta State.
He added that investments in health facilities and equipment remained important to improving the quality of care available to residents.
Education and Human Capital Development
Funkekeme also commended the government’s interventions in education, including the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching personnel, rehabilitation of school facilities and investments in technical and tertiary education.
He maintained that sustainable development depended on equipping citizens with relevant knowledge, practical skills and educational opportunities to participate meaningfully in the economy.
According to him, the administration’s education policies were aimed at strengthening the state’s human capital and creating opportunities for future generations.
Workers’ Welfare, Pensions and Social Protection
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors coordinator further highlighted the payment of promotion arrears and pension benefits, as well as empowerment programmes designed to support vulnerable residents.
He said attention to workers’ welfare, retirees, women, young people and other vulnerable groups was an important aspect of inclusive development.
Funkekeme noted that social protection initiatives could help address the needs of different segments of society while expanding opportunities for economic participation.
Peace and Security as Priorities
He also pointed to the administration’s emphasis on peace and security, describing a stable environment as essential for businesses, communities and public institutions to function effectively.
He stressed that sustainable development required cooperation among government institutions, traditional rulers, religious organisations and other stakeholders.
According to him, collective efforts to maintain peace and strengthen community relations would contribute to the state’s social and economic development.
Award Comes With Responsibility, Says Funkekeme
Funkekeme said the Christian Icon Award should encourage the governor to sustain his commitment to transparency, compassion, accountability and equitable development across Delta State’s three senatorial districts.
He added that public recognition carried greater significance when accompanied by measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.
“The ultimate test of leadership is the ability to translate promises into tangible benefits for the people,” he said, according to the statement.

He also urged residents to support initiatives that promote peace, unity and collective progress, stressing that government and citizens shared responsibility for building a more prosperous state.
