The Delta State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, has called on traditional rulers in the state to support policies and reforms of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Funkekeme, who is also Senior Policy Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, made the call on Wednesday during an engagement with the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers in Asaba.
He said the engagement was aimed at improving grassroots understanding of the policies and programmes of the Federal Government and the Delta State Government.

According to Funkekeme, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors was established to communicate the policies and reforms of the Tinubu administration to Nigerians and explain their objectives and expected benefits.
He identified traditional rulers as important partners in the sensitisation process because of their influence and position as custodians of the culture and traditions of their communities.
Funkekeme said the organisation had conducted sensitisation activities across the 25 local government areas of Delta State, engaging traditional institutions, community leaders, professional bodies, youths, women and other stakeholders.
He cited the removal of fuel subsidy and student-loan initiatives among the Federal Government’s major policy initiatives, while also highlighting efforts towards greater state participation in addressing security challenges.
The Senior Policy Adviser said citizens needed to understand the rationale behind government reforms and their potential implications.
He also explained the relationship between the state government and the Federal Government, saying Governor Oborevwori’s alignment with the centre was aimed, among other things, at strengthening Delta’s relationship with the Federal Government and creating opportunities for development.
Funkekeme urged traditional rulers to continue using their positions to promote peace, stability and understanding between government and communities.
In his response, First Vice Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers and Pere of Akugbene-Mein, HRM Pere S.P. Luke Kalanama VIII, said traditional rulers had a responsibility to support policies that promoted the welfare of their subjects.
The monarch, however, appealed to President Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Works to address the poor condition of federal roads across the state.
He expressed particular concern about roads connecting riverine and oil-producing communities, noting that their deterioration could affect transportation, economic activities and residents’ wellbeing.
Kalanama said support for government initiatives should go hand in hand with responsiveness to legitimate concerns from citizens.
He also urged government representatives to sustain consultations with traditional institutions, saying continuous engagement would enable authorities to better understand challenges facing communities.

The monarch called for greater attention to infrastructure and basic needs, stressing that development policies should result in tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
The meeting ended with a call for continued cooperation between traditional institutions and the federal and state governments in promoting development, peace and stability in Delta State.
