A prominent community leader and traditional title holder, Chief Richard Asaje, has commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his proactive move in keying into the Federal Government’s initiative to establish the National Forest Guards in the Confluence State.
Chief Asaje while reacting to the Graduation of 530 pioneer set of the Security outfit in the State, described the decision as timely and people-centered, noting that it will go a long way in addressing the lingering security challenges in the forests and rural communities across Kogi.
Chief Asaje, who is the Founder and National Coordinator, Like Minds Alliance Pressure Group, said the establishment of the Forest Guards will strengthen surveillance in the state’s vast forest which have, in recent times, been used as hideouts by criminal elements.
He noted that with the well-trained personnel deployed to monitor and secure these areas, farmers, travelers and residents will be able to go about their lawful businesses without fear of attacks, kidnapping or banditry.
According to him, Governor Ododo’s collaboration with the Federal Government on the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“This is a bold step that shows the Governor is listening to the cries of the people. Insecurity has affected farming, commerce and movement in many parts of Kogi. With the Forest Guards in place, we expect to see a significant drop in crime and a boost in food production”, Chief Asaje stated.
Chief Asaje further urged traditional rulers, community leaders and youths to support the Forest Guards by providing useful intelligence and cooperating with security agencies, expressing optimism that the initiative will restore peace to troubled areas and attract more investment into the state’s agricultural and economic sectors.
He also called on the graduating officers to serve with honesty, dedication and integrity.
