Charles Aniagwu Named DIGA 2026 Media Icon of the Year
Charles Aniagwu, Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, has been named the 2026 Media Icon of the Year by the Board of Management of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards (DIGA), recognizing his contributions to public communication, government transparency, and infrastructure development.
The announcement was made by DIGA Co-founder Onajite Malcolm Tagbarah, who praised Aniagwu as a public official whose career has successfully bridged effective governance with strategic communication.
Tagbarah described Aniagwu as a rare public servant who has balanced the demanding responsibilities of overseeing rural road construction while serving as the chief spokesperson for the Delta State Government.

According to the award organizers, Aniagwu’s background in journalism and media has strengthened his ability to explain government policies, encourage public participation, and promote transparency in governance.
They said his communication strategy has helped improve public understanding of the administration’s priorities while reinforcing accountability across government institutions.
Beyond his media role, organizers credited Aniagwu with supervising major rural road projects across Delta State under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, a development blueprint focused on expanding infrastructure and improving public services.
The Board of Management noted that Aniagwu has played a key role in connecting government policies with the people by regularly inspecting projects throughout Delta State’s 25 local government areas and providing updates on their implementation.
Award organizers described him as “the voice that builds and the builder who speaks,” saying his work demonstrates that successful governance depends not only on delivering physical infrastructure but also on maintaining public trust through clear and consistent communication.
They added that Aniagwu has consistently emphasized transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance, helping residents better understand the objectives and progress of government initiatives.
According to the organizers, his leadership has shown that effective public administration is measured by both project delivery and the ability to communicate a government’s vision in ways that inspire public confidence.
The Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards said Aniagwu will formally receive the 2026 Media Icon of the Year Award during a ceremony scheduled for July 26, 2026, at the Times Event Center in Sapele, Delta State.
The event is expected to attract government officials, media professionals, civil society leaders, business executives, and community stakeholders from across Delta State and beyond.
Organizers said the recognition celebrates Aniagwu’s lasting contributions to public communication, rural infrastructure development, and his efforts in advancing Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda through sustained engagement with citizens.
They expressed confidence that the award will further encourage excellence in public service and reinforce the importance of transparent communication in democratic governance.
The Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards annually recognize individuals and institutions whose leadership, professional achievements, and community impact have contributed significantly to the development of Delta State and Nigeria.
