Breaking: Humanitarian Icon Idris HK Picks SDP Nomination Form for Kogi East Senate Race

Prominent businessman, philanthropist and politician, Idris Hussein Kashim, popularly known as Idris HK, has officially obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form of the Social Democratic Party to contest for the Kogi East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections.

Idris HK picked the forms on Monday in Abuja shortly after a closed-door strategic meeting with the National Chairman of the SDP, signaling his formal entry into the race for the Red Chamber.

The Ajaka-born politician from Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area is the Chairman of the Idris HK Foundation and has earned widespread recognition across Kogi East for his extensive humanitarian and community development initiatives.

Over the years, he has spearheaded several intervention projects, including the donation of transformers and solar-powered streetlights to communities, drilling of boreholes, scholarship awards for indigent students, medical outreach programmes, and youth empowerment schemes aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.

His recent donation and commissioning of a 300KVA transformer in Ofakaga community, Ofu Local Government Area, further strengthened his growing popularity and grassroots appeal across the senatorial district.

In another major development initiative, Idris HK recently announced the commencement of efforts to restore electricity to Ankpa Local Government Area, one of the largest councils in Kogi East, which has reportedly been without stable power supply for nearly a decade.

The multi-million naira electrification project has already commenced, with one of his aides, Raphael Agalama, confirming via a social media post on Monday that funds for the technical assessment of the project had been released.

Political observers believe the formal declaration of Idris HK for the Kogi East Senate seat is likely to reshape the political landscape in the district ahead of the 2027 polls.

The SDP is expected to conduct its primaries between May 8 and May 27, 2026, in line with the party’s timetable for the forthcoming general elections.
