Benue PDP Condemns Killings in Otukpo Communities, Urges State Government to Strengthen Security
The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the recent killings in Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi communities in Otukpo Local Government Area, calling on the Benue State Government to take decisive action to address the worsening security situation.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Bright Yima Antyo, the PDP described the attacks as gruesome, inhumane and unacceptable, saying they reflect the growing insecurity affecting communities across the state.
According to the opposition party, the continued attacks on unarmed residents represent a serious challenge to public safety and underscore the government’s constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.
The PDP expressed concern over what it described as repeated attacks on vulnerable communities, urging the state government to move beyond issuing statements after violent incidents and instead implement practical measures to improve security.
“The continuous massacre of defenseless communities is unacceptable, intolerable and a complete failure of the government’s primary responsibility to protect lives and property,” the statement said.
The party called on the Benue State Government to demonstrate stronger commitment to tackling the security crisis, stressing that residents deserve prompt and effective protection.
It added that the lives of citizens should remain a top priority and urged authorities to take urgent steps to prevent further attacks.
The PDP also extended its condolences to the people of Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi communities, especially families who lost relatives in the attacks.
“We sympathise with the people of Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi communities, particularly the families who have lost loved ones in this unfortunate and unprovoked attack. We share in your grief and stand in solidarity with you during this difficult time,” the statement added.
The party prayed for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives and asked God to grant their families the strength to bear the loss.
