APC Youth Network West Africa Holds Successful Lagos Flag-Off Ceremony, Empowers Members in Apapa
The APC Youth Network West Africa (APCYN-WA), in collaboration with its Apapa Chapter, has successfully held its Lagos State Flag-Off Ceremony, bringing together party leaders, youth stakeholders, women groups and supporters in a colourful gathering at the Governor Event Centre, Apapa.
The event, held on July 12, 2026, witnessed an impressive turnout and marked another milestone in the organisation’s efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and youth participation within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Proceedings began with the arrival of invited guests, followed by Christian and Muslim prayers, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to religious harmony and national unity.
Participants later rendered the APC anthem before the formal recognition of dignitaries.
Among those in attendance were the Director General of APC Youth Network West Africa, Hon. Olatunde Gideon Igbasan; the Deputy Director General, HRH Dr. Mayowa Olaide Jose, Alaaye of Dome-Kwabenya; the NYSC Chairman of Apapa; coordinators; councillors; directorates; and other APC stakeholders across Apapa.
In his welcome address, the General Coordinator of the Apapa Youth Zone encouraged Nigerian youths to take active roles in the electoral process and governance, stressing that young people possess the capacity to drive democratic growth and national development.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Comrade Adebola Ogunyemi, Comrade Ahmed, Comrade Lateef Owolabi and Comrade Labambam, all of whom emphasised party unity, grassroots mobilisation and sustained youth engagement.
Addressing participants, the Deputy Director General, HRH Dr. Mayowa Olaide Jose, urged members to remain united, committed and peaceful, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved through collective responsibility and active democratic participation.
One of the highlights of the event was the inauguration of the newly elected executive members of the Apapa Chapter, with Comrade Oladiran Sheriff among those sworn into office.
The leadership expressed confidence that the new executives would strengthen the organisation’s grassroots structures and expand its activities across Lagos communities.
Delivering the keynote address, the Director General, Hon. Olatunde Gideon Igbasan, disclosed that APC Youth Network West Africa was established barely six months ago but has continued to record significant growth across Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
He appreciated members for their overwhelming support and pledged to continue strengthening the organisation through strategic mobilisation, youth empowerment and community engagement.
Igbasan also commended the impressive turnout of women and mothers, describing their participation as a demonstration of confidence in the vision of APCYN-WA.
A major attraction of the ceremony was the empowerment initiative unveiled by the Director General to improve the welfare of members and promote economic self-reliance.
The empowerment package included:
₦200,000 grants awarded to three lactating mothers.
₦50,000 cash support presented to every woman in attendance.
₦2 million disbursed among men present at the event.
According to Igbasan, the intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritises economic inclusion, youth empowerment and grassroots development.
He assured members that similar empowerment programmes would be extended to other chapters as the organisation continues to expand.
The ceremony ended with renewed commitments by members to promote youth development, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and support the programmes of the All Progressives Congress.
