Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State came alive on Saturday as stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gathered in Igarra for a strategic meeting ahead of the commencement of political activities scheduled for August 19, 2026, in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The meeting, which attracted party leaders, ward executives, women leaders and supporters from across the local government, was marked by camaraderie and renewed enthusiasm as members rallied around the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A major highlight of the gathering was the presence of Otunba Oladele Bankole-Balogun, the APC candidate for the House of Representatives, Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency.
Supporters greeted Bankole-Balogun with chants of “Oteniete”, creating an atmosphere of excitement and signalling the growing mobilisation within the party ahead of the political season.
Addressing the gathering, Bankole-Balogun spoke to thousands of APC stakeholders, including the 10 ward chairmen, women leaders and party supporters, reaffirming his commitment to the development and progress of Akoko-Edo.
He pledged continued loyalty to the APC and assured constituents that his political ambition was anchored on effective representation, development and improved opportunities for the people.
Bankole-Balogun also expressed his determination to work closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Adams Oshiomhole at the national level to attract meaningful development projects and the dividends of democracy to Akoko-Edo.
According to him, the support of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the newly elected Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Hon. Robert Akande, would further strengthen efforts to reposition the area for sustainable development.
He stressed the importance of unity among APC stakeholders, noting that collective commitment and cooperation would be critical to achieving the party’s objectives in Akoko-Edo.

The meeting ended with renewed assurances of unity, loyalty and dedication to the APC, while stakeholders expressed readiness for the commencement of political activities on August 19.
The gathering is expected to further strengthen grassroots mobilisation in Akoko-Edo as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections.
