It was a homecoming that turned into a historic political statement. Over the weekend, the ancient town Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State was locked down as a mammoth crowd poured out to welcome their son and representative, Elder Leke Abejide, in what can simply be described as an early referendum and a clear signal of his victory ahead of the 2027 general elections.

From dawn, the roads leading into the constituency were filled with an endless stream of people. Okada riders, market women, farmers, artisans, youths, students, traditional rulers and religious leaders abandoned their daily routines to be part of the movement. Songs of praise, drums, and chants of “Leke Again and Again” filled the air, turning the entire community into a festival ground.

Gradually, the homecoming transformed into a carnival of endorsement. The turnout was not just large, it was organic and emotional. Elderly women danced with joy, youths held banners that read “Thank You For Keeping Your Promises” and children lined the streets waving.

The reason for the massive love is not far-fetched. Elder Leke Abejide has redefined effective representation. His tenure in the House of Representatives has been marked by visible, people-oriented projects that have directly impacted lives.

His footprint is visible in education through payment of WAEC, NECO, JAMB fees and scholarships, in water provision through numerous motorized boreholes, in rural infrastructure, in health outreach and most notably in his unprecedented empowerment programmes that have lifted thousands of widows, youths and small business owners out of poverty.

Unlike the typical politician who disappears after elections, Elder Leke has remained accessible, present and responsive. That connection was evident in the crowd.

The momentum is undeniable. If politics is truly about the people, Elder Leke has already won their hearts. The mammoth crowd is a message to any contender: the seat is not vacant.

As 2027 approaches, one thing is clear from the homecoming: Elder Leke is not just going into an election, he is walking into an early victory secured by performance, trust and genuine love from his people.
