The passing of a former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris popularly known as Ibro, has been described as a monumental loss not only to Kogi East but to the entire state.

The association of patriots for unity, peace and prosperity of Kogi East, in a condolence statement issued by Prince Abubakar Sadiq Zakari, expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the former Governor who died on Sunday, September 20, 2026 in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.

The Group recalled that during his nearly nine years in office on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the late Idris initiated landmark projects including the Confluence Stadium, Greater Lokoja Water Scheme, housing estates, rural roads and major interventions in education and healthcare that laid the foundation for the state’s development.

“Alhaji Ibrahim Idris (Ibro) was a father, a bridge-builder and a true son of Igala land who governed Kogi State with humility and a large heart. His death has robbed Kogi East of its most iconic political leader in recent history

“We commiserate with his immediate family, the people of Kogi State, and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo who has declared a three-day mourning period in his honour. His legacies will never be forgotten. We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannah Firdaus”, the Group added.
