As Kogi State marks 35 years of creation, conversations across the 21 Local Government Areas and in the diaspora are converging on one central theme: CONTINUITY. For many stakeholders, the reelection of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is not just a political contest. It is a project for all Kogites who desire peace, development and prosperity in the Confluence State.
In the last two years, the Ododo’s administration has focused on laying a foundation anchored on four pillars: workers’ welfare, infrastructure, security and human capital development. Civil servants and pensioners have enjoyed prompt payment of salaries and allowances, a move that has boosted consumer spending and stabilized households across the state. Roads linking rural communities to markets have been graded and rehabilitated, while urban renewal projects in Lokoja, Okene, Kabba, and Idah are gradually changing the face of the state.
Security, which is the bedrock of development, has also received priority attention. Through collaboration with traditional rulers, vigilantes, and security agencies, the government has recorded relative peace in many flashpoints. Farmers are returning to their farms, traders are moving goods with less fear, and schools are operating with greater confidence. These gains are fragile, and stakeholders argue that sustaining them requires continuity in leadership.
Beyond infrastructure, Governor Ododo has invested in people. Youth empowerment schemes, support for small businesses and interventions in health and education are designed to create opportunities at the grassroots. The administration’s commitment to agriculture as a driver of jobs and food security is also yielding results, with more Kogites embracing farming as a viable livelihood.
This is why many community leaders, youth groups, women organizations and political stakeholders are describing Ododo’s reelection as a collective project. It is not about party alone, it is about protecting what he’s been building upon from the previous administration and finishing what he has started. Every Kogite, home and abroad, has a stake in this.
The call is also for unity. Kogi’s diversity is its strength, but only if managed with fairness and inclusion. The stakeholders and all political actors should run issue-based campaigns, avoid divisive rhetoric and give room for a peaceful electoral process. Eligible citizens should collect their PVCs and participate actively because democracy thrives when the people own the process.
As the 2027 General elections draw closer, the message is clear. Ododo’s reelection represents an opportunity to consolidate gains, complete ongoing projects, and deepen development across all senatorial districts. For traders in Lokoja Market, teachers in Dekina, farmers in Bassa, and students in Anyigba, the project is personal.
The work has started. Let us finish it together. Ododo’s reelection is indeed a project for all Kogites.
