Today in Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State, one name keeps coming up in town halls, markets, and WhatsApp Groups: Hon. Leke Abejide. Since his assumption of Office as Member, House of Representatives – representing Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopa-Muro Federal Constituency, constituents have tagged him “The Darling of Yagba.” The reason is simple – he came with a promise to give hope to the hopeless, and the work so far suggests he meant it.

* EDUCATION: Investing in the Next Generation

Knowing the importance of Education, Hon. Leke Abejide focused early on paying the WAEC Fees of our Children in Public schools across Yagba. This effort he has been carrying out even before he ventures into Politics. When the Government of Kogi State took over, Leke did not stop, he started paying for the Students in Private schools. He has given scholarships. Several schools across the 3 LGAs got renovation and new blocks, improving learning conditions. Beyond infrastructure, other support for Yagba students in tertiary institutions has reduced the financial pressure on parents. The message to students has been clear: your background should not determine your future.

* ROADS: Connecting People to Opportunity

One of the things people notice is movement. Many rural routes that became impassable during rainy seasons are now motorable. Farm communities can take produce to market without losing days on bad roads. For traders, students, and patients needing hospitals, these roads are more than tar – they are access to livelihood and life.

* HEALTH & EMPOWERMENT: Care at the Doorstep

Medical outreaches brought free consultation, drugs, and screening to villages that rarely see doctors. Primary health centers also received attention to improve service delivery for mothers and children. On empowerment, youth and women benefited from various skills training followed by start-up tools. For many beneficiaries, that support turned training into small businesses and daily income.

* REPRESENTATION: A Voice That Listens

What earned him the “Darling of Yagba” title goes beyond projects. Constituents point to accessibility. From attracting federal presence to the Area, to direct intervention in personal and community emergencies, his Office is seen as open. In representation, that closeness matters as much as legislation.

Three words define the story so far: Roads, Schools and livelihoods. Hon. Leke Abejide’s tenure so far is built on the idea that governance should be felt before it is announced. In Yagba, hope is no longer just a slogan. It’s a reality that is and felt by all and sundry.
