KPA Hails Alia–Akume Reconciliation, Urges Sustained Unity in Benue
The Kunav Progressive Academics (KPA) has commended the recent reconciliation and peace meeting between Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, describing it as a major step toward strengthening unity and political stability in the state.
In a statement issued on May 4, 2026, the group said the development marks a significant turning point capable of advancing the collective interests of Benue people, while reinforcing dialogue as the best approach to resolving political differences.
KPA noted that the reconciliation reflects maturity, patriotism, and a shared commitment to peace among leaders, stressing that such gestures are critical to good governance and social cohesion.
The academics particularly praised Governor Alia for what they described as humility and courage in demonstrating leadership through openness and accountability.
“His willingness to express regret where necessary underscores a deep sense of responsibility and sets a commendable standard for political leadership,” the statement read.
The group also acknowledged the role of Senator Akume in embracing peace and fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect, adding that his call for party stakeholders to support the governor further signals confidence in the administration’s direction.
KPA further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his role in promoting unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, noting that his intervention helped to bridge differences and prevent prolonged political tension.
According to the statement, the President’s continued support for the state government has contributed to stability and provided the necessary backing for developmental efforts.
The group urged members of the National Assembly and the Benue State House of Assembly to embrace the outcome of the reconciliation in good faith and align with its spirit.
“At this critical time, unity of purpose across all levels of leadership is essential for peace, stability, and the delivery of democratic dividends,” KPA stated.
It also called on political actors and citizens to draw inspiration from the development by supporting initiatives that promote harmony and sustainable development in the state.
The statement was jointly signed by a coalition of professors and academics under the KPA umbrella, reaffirming their commitment to responsible leadership, intellectual engagement, and policies that enhance the welfare of the people.
