7th Nasarawa Assembly Marks Third Anniversary, Passes 37 Bills, Embarks on Five-Week Recess
…Speaker Hails Lawmakers for Support, Commends Synergy with Executive Arm
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has marked its third anniversary with a record of significant legislative achievements, including the passage of 37 bills and 28 resolutions aimed at promoting good governance and development across the state.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, disclosed this on Wednesday in Lafia during the formal commencement of the Assembly’s end-of-legislative-year recess.
According to the Speaker, the bills and resolutions passed by the House over the past three years have had direct and positive impacts on the lives of the people of Nasarawa State.
Dr. Jatau expressed appreciation to members of the Assembly for their unwavering support, cooperation, and commitment, which he said had contributed immensely to the successes recorded by the legislature.
“I want to sincerely thank all members for the maximum support and cooperation you have given me over the years. The achievements we have recorded are products of our collective efforts, unity, and shared commitment to serving the people,” he said.
The Speaker revealed that while 37 bills had been successfully passed into law, an additional 33 bills were currently at various stages of legislative consideration.
“Within the period under review, we have passed 37 bills, while 33 others are pending. We have also adopted 28 resolutions, all of which are critical to the development and progress of our state,” he added.
Dr. Jatau also commended lawmakers for maintaining a cordial working relationship with the Executive arm of government, noting that the synergy had contributed significantly to the achievements recorded by the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
“I equally appreciate all members, including those from the opposition, for giving Governor Abdullahi Sule the necessary support to succeed. Our effective collaboration and harmonious relationship with the Executive have enabled the governor to implement policies and programmes that have positively impacted the state,” he stated.
The Speaker wished members a productive recess and success in their political and personal engagements during the break.
Earlier, the Deputy Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, moved a motion for the House to proceed on recess from June 6, 2026, to July 14, 2026.
The motion was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, and received unanimous support from members during plenary.
Following the adoption of the motion, the House officially adjourned for a five-week recess, with legislative activities expected to resume on July 14, 2026.
