As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, the immediate past Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has moved to calm tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Toto Local Government Area.

Balarabe’s intervention followed the resignation of the immediate past Toto Local Government Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Abdullahi Tashas, from the APC.

Tashas announced his resignation from the ruling party on Monday evening, with the development attracting reactions from APC members and political stakeholders across the local government.

The former Speaker appealed to Tashas to reconsider his decision and return to the party, saying any grievance responsible for his action could be addressed amicably.

He also disclosed plans to visit Gadabuke District, where Tashas hails from, to meet with stakeholders and party members.

Balarabe said the proposed engagement would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to rub minds and chart a way forward for the party.

“You cannot leave the house you build for another person to inherit,” he said.

He described APC as the political home of its members and expressed optimism that the party would retain its strength in Toto ahead of 2027.

“APC is our home, is our party, and our victory is assured by the will of Allah. We will get there, we will deliver our LG, Insha Allah, come 2027, and victory shall be ours by His grace,” he said.

According to him, the party must not ignore the importance of grassroots members in its preparations for the elections.

“We can’t fold our hands seeing our party losing its members. We can’t fold our hands allowing our people to leave. In politics, everyone matters, grassroots matters, because politics is local,” he said.

Balarabe urged stakeholders to prioritize unity, noting that political disagreements could be resolved through dialogue.

“It is obvious that people disagree to agree because no one is perfect. Perfection belongs to God Almighty,” he said.

He stressed that unity of purpose would be critical to the party’s political task ahead.

“No matter what, we must unite our people,” Balarabe added.
