The Yagba Young Minds has issued a strong statement accusing Hon. Leke Abejide, the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, of deceiving his constituents with unfulfilled campaign promises.

In a statement signed by its President, Abraham Ilukere, and made available to newsmen, the group demanded that the lawmaker immediately stop what it described as “one deception too many.

Group Throws Weight Behind Gov. Ododo, Elder Leke Abejide

“The youth group recalled that two years ago, Abejide promised N5 million each to 30 communities in Yagba, a pledge that has remained unmet till date. It expressed dismay that the lawmaker is now dangling a fresh promise of N10 million to 71 communities, urging him to fulfil past commitments before making new ones.”

“We call on Hon. Leke Abejide to cease deceiving the people of Yagba Federal Constituency,” the statement read in part.

“Two years after promising N5 million to 30 communities, which he has failed to fulfil, he is now promising N10 million to 71 communities. This is one deception too many.”The group stressed that public office demands “clean hands” and reminded the lawmaker of his primary constitutional role to make laws, not empty promises.

They also took exception to Abejide’s recent self-proclamation as “Asiwaju of Yagba Land,” dismissing it as an act of undue pride. “You don’t have what it takes to be Asiwaju of Yagba Land,” the statement declared, warning that such hubris could lead to his downfall.

Yagba Young Minds referenced illustrious sons and daughters of the area, including Chief Kola Jamodu, Prof. Eyitayo Lambo, Chief Jide Omokore, as well as retired military generals and senior politicians, insisting that Yagba deserves leaders of proven integrity and sincerity.

The group concluded by calling on Hon. Abejide to shelve his “inordinate ambition” for leadership in Yagba Land and stop misleading the people, adding that he lacks the qualities to be recognised as a legitimate leader.

Efforts to reach Hon. Abejide for comments were not successful at the time of filing this report.
