Unity Before Zoning: Nasarawa North Backs Adamu, Pushes for Equitable Governorship

The Nasarawa North people’s Assembly and 147 support groups have thrown their weight behind Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, urging stakeholders to prioritize fair play over zoning arrangements in the 2027 governorship election.
The groups made the call during a solidarity rally in Akwanga, emphasizing the need for inclusive participation from all zones in the upcoming election.
With just a few months to the primary elections of all political parties leading up to the 2027 general elections, the issue of zoning has taken center stage in Nasarawa politics.
While some are pushing for the governorship position to be zoned to Nasarawa West, others, including the Nasarawa North people’s Assembly and 147 support groups, are advocating for an open contest.
The group, led by coordinator Nathaniel Isa, took to the streets of Akwanga to drum up support for retired IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, arguing that Nasarawa’s political landscape has matured beyond the era of imposed candidates.
“Our politics has evolved, and it’s time for leadership to reflect the capacity, competence, and people-oriented policies of candidates, not just zoning arrangements,” Isa said.
He warned that internal contradictions and unresolved grievances within the ruling party have contributed to its challenges in 2023 general elections and urged stakeholders to adopt a new approach to prevent repeat incidents.
The People’s Assembly called on the APC National leadership, the presidency, and key stakeholders to focus on Nasarawa state politics and not allow a few individuals to hijack the party at the state level, considering what happened in 2023 where president Tinubu lost election with other National Assembly members.
The Nasarawa North people’s Assembly described Rtd. IGP Adamu as a rare political convergence point, a figure whose appeal transcends senatorial zones, generational divides, and entrenched intra_party blocs.The rally, which featured traditional dancers, praise singers, and women chanting solidarity songs, marked a show of support for Adamu’s bid for the governorship seat.
