NSUK Faculty of Law Hosts Arbitration Training for Future Dispute Resolution Experts

The Nasarawa University, Keffi, recently played host to an arbitration training program aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to become associate members of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), UK.
The training, which was held at the Bayo Ojo Centre for Arbitration and Mediation Studies, was designed to introduce participants to the principles and practices of arbitration, a specialized field where parties agree to resolve disputes, usually financial matters, in an amicable way.
The training was facilitated by experienced resource persons, including Mr. Agada Elachi, Mr. Ikpeme Nkebem, and Diana Koko, a fellow and faculty member of the CIArb UK Nigeria Branch.
The facilitators covered various topics, including appointment, jurisdiction, and powers of arbitrators, preliminary meetings, and interlocutories, as well as mediation and conciliation skills.
The training is part of the efforts of the Bayo Ojo Centre for Arbitration and Mediation Studies to promote research and training in arbitration and mediation.
According to Dr. Alex Ikpu, the acting director of the centre, the training is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to become associate members of the CIArb.
The centre was established in 2026 to promote research and training in arbitration and mediation.
Participants at the training, drawn from all parts of the country, expressed their satisfaction with the program and promised to apply the knowledge gained.
Umar Yakubu, a participant from the Kano State Ministry of Justice, lauded the training and promised to use the knowledge gained to become a member of the institute.
The training marks a significant step towards promoting alternative dispute resolution in Nasarawa State. The Bayo Ojo Centre for Arbitration and Mediation Studies is committed to providing a platform for individuals and organizations to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to resolve disputes effectively.
With this training, participants are one step closer to becoming associate members of the CIArb, a prestigious professional body that sets standards for arbitration and dispute resolution globally.
