The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong ultimatum to the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), threatening legal action if it fails to extend deadlines for the party’s participation in the upcoming local government elections.

In a letter dated January 19, 2026, PDP Chairman, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, blamed the party’s prolonged leadership litigation for missing key timelines, insisting the extension would promote fairness, equity, and credible polls.

“We are ready to participate fully and comply with any revised timelines. Our internal issues have been resolved,” Gambo stated, urging KOSIEC to exercise its powers under the 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act to regulate the process.

The PDP boss lamented receiving no official communication from KOSIEC since it assumed office, warning: “Grant our request or face legal consequences.”

But in a swift response, KOSIEC Chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, rejected the plea, citing statutory barriers in the Kogi State Electoral Law that would undermine transparency if breached.

Eri highlighted missed deadlines, including party primaries on December 12, 2025; nomination form collection on December 19, 2025; and candidate submission on January 9, 2026.

Nevertheless, Hon. Gambo reaffirmed PDP’s commitment to collaborate with KOSIEC and stakeholders for free, fair, and credible elections.
