INEC Bows to Court Order, Recognizes Nenadi Usman-Led Labour Party Leadership
Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has complied with a court ruling by officially recognizing the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party led by Senator Nenadi Esther Usman on its website.
The update lists Senator Usman alongside key figures including Senator Darlington Nwokocha and other members, marking a significant victory for judicial authority after a legal battle that began in 2024.Oluchi Oparah, former National Treasurer of the Labour Party, hailed the move as a “triumph of the rule of law.”
In a statement, she praised INEC for upholding court pronouncements and demonstrating that Nigeria’s democratic institutions can self-correct.”

This action reaffirms that the judiciary must be obeyed,” Oparah said, urging the new leadership to reposition the party as a “credible, organized, and people-centered” force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oparah described the struggle as a “long journey” often fought as a “lone voice,” noting its emotional toll on her family but crediting divine intervention for the outcome.
The recognition ends months of internal Labour Party disputes and underscores INEC’s commitment to legal compliance amid ongoing efforts to stabilize opposition politics in Nigeria.
Labour Party!
Forward Ever!!
Backward Never!!!
