Fubara Fires Back at Wike: ‘I Was With Him 16 Years, Never Called Bad Person’

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has vehemently defended his character amid escalating political feud with his godfather, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, insisting he served loyally for up to 16 years without blemish.
Speaking at a recent event in Port Harcourt, Fubara dismissed labels of ingratitude, stating that if he were truly bad, everyone who knew him would testify against him.
Fubara recounted his decades-long association with Wike, saying: “I was with him for 2, 4, 8 and even 16 years. I was never called a bad person, if I was a bad person… everyone here would testify that Fubara is a bad person.”
He used the analogy of a maturing child to explain growing independence: “There comes a time when even your girl child would lock herself up in the bathroom for her to be alone.”
The governor likened prolonged control to overfeeding, declaring: “If you have been spoon feeding me and it has gotten to my throat, I will hold your hand and say enough.”
This retort comes as Wike has branded Fubara an “ungrateful bad child” in the ongoing Rivers crisis, which includes impeachment threats from a Wike-aligned assembly.
Fubara justified his stance by prioritising people’s interests: “Because I decided Rivers money would be used for Rivers people, today I am now a bad person!”
The feud, rooted in power struggles post-2023 elections, persists despite past interventions, with recent assembly moves against Fubara amid state emergency rule lift.
