Emir of Lafia pleads with Nasarawa Speaker, lawmakers to forgive Lafia LG Chairman and lift his suspension
The Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad Retired, Monday paid an unscheduled and surprised visit to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
The Emir accompanied by his Council members on arrival were received by the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau in his office.
It was gathered that the Emir’s visit was solely in respect to the crisis rocking Lafia LGA that led to the suspension of the Executive Chairman Hon. Muhammad Haliru Arabo by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for three months.
According to the Emir, “the Chairman has committed an offense and like every other child that errs, he will be ponished, corrected and pardon”
The first class monarch and Chairman, Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs, said the palace has already summoned the Chairman and the LG legislators and have addressed them, cautioned the Chairman hence the need to visit the State Assembly to apologize on behalf of the Chairman.
“First and foremost Mr. Speaksr, I am here with my council members to appreciate you and commend you for the good work you are doing in the State in entrenching peace, unity and development”
“To also tell you that we are with you, we will continue to be with you, you are a good man, you are doing a good job, for peace, unity and progress of the State, please keep it up”
“We also want to appreciate you and your members for the good work and effective partnership with the executive for the speedy growth of the the State”
“Secondly, our visit is in respect to the offense committed by our child the chairman of Lafia LG, we has called him to the palace, we have cautioned him and we have advised him appropriately, please forgive him, I am here as a father to apologize on his behalf please give me this singular honour to forgive him, this will never repeat it self again, that I assured you Mr. Speaker, we are just from the Governor on the same matter” The Emir said.
He added that already he has instructed the Chairman to go and withdraw the case in court with immediate effect and the process for the withdrawal has already commenced immediately.
Responding, the Speaker Dr. Danladi Jatau thanked the Emir for the visit, respect and for the show of concern appreciating him for the good leadership is providing in the State to ensure that peace, unity and development reign supreme for the benefits of all.
He assured the Emir that he will reach out to the lawmakers on the Emir’s visit and the purpose of his coming to the House noting that the needed will be done accordingly through the necessary procedures.
He emphasized that there is the need for the matter to be taking out of court as first step to give room for intervention of the House.
“You are a father to us all, and we will continue to give you the best honor and respect you deserve from us as your children, the Chairman was in my House this morning and I told him the matter must be out of court first”
