COUP PLOT EXPOSED: DIA, NFIU, EFCC Trace Millions to Ex-Gov Sylva’s Accounts
New revelations from the probe into the foiled coup against President Bola Tinubu point to former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva as a key financier, with security agencies tracking suspicious funds to his linked accounts.
Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) operatives, in tandem with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), followed the money trail after detained soldiers named Sylva during interrogations.

The ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and APC stalwart allegedly funded the plot, fueled by his bitterness over being sidelined in Tinubu’s cabinet.
Sources say President Tinubu initially dismissed early leads as unproven, ordering DIA to loop in EFCC and NFIU for deeper scrutiny.
Their joint report, detailing illicit flows, convinced him of a real threat to constitutional rule.
Confessions Detail High-Tech Plot
Arrested officers, including a Brigadier General, Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, and a Captain, confessed to being recruited for the scheme.
They described a low-profile operation relying on drones and tech gadgets, avoiding mass troop movements.
Sylva faces additional accusations of illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta.
DSS agents raided his Abuja home last week, clarifying earlier reports of a military operation, to seize evidence.
Military sources confirm the plotters’ names will soon go public ahead of a General Court Martial.
Sylva vehemently denies the claims. His media aide, Julius Bokoru, called it “political sabotage” ahead of 2027 elections, noting the raid caused property damage without a warrant shown.
Sylva was abroad, undergoing UK medical checks before a Malaysia trip, alongside his wife. “We reaffirm his loyalty to APC and President Tinubu,” Bokoru’s statement read. “Sylva has zero involvement, direct or indirect.”
Investigators vow to press on, with more arrests looming.
